The battery system is intended for use with an arm mounted computer for first responders and the military. The housing was designed ergonomically to be worn either on the thigh or back. The battery is waterproof to a depth of 1 meter. A push button visual battery level indicator was incorporated. The smart li-ion battery system included an intelligent charger to ensure proper battery charging and charge maintenance.
The term smart applies not only to the battery management system but to its ability to be connected to a computer to give information regarding status of the battery pack and the individual cells. Computer/Battery communication was accomplished via the SmBus v1.1 protocol.
